Web Services

Web services are a type of Web application. They are self-contained, self-describing, modular applications that can be published, located, and invoked across the Web. Web services perform functions, which can be anything from simple requests to complicated business processes.

Simply stated, these are the building blocks of an application. They're independent engines that enable applications to share data and, more importantly, to access the functionality of other applications without regard to how those applications were implemented, where they reside, or on which operating system or platform they run.

Web services represent a powerful way for organizations to export data and functionality to their customers and business partners.

CloverLink has developed several Web Services using SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) or simple XML over HTTP. These services solve various business challenges including the following:
  • Receiving data from sundry trading partners in virtually any XML format and translating it into a standard format usable throughout an organization
  • Fronting various internal services (e.g. pricing) to provide a common interface for business partners
  • Providing SOAP interfaces to 3rd party applications to facilitate access to their functionality and data without direct access to the given application
