WMC Direct Private Label Websites

A very interesting project I worked on over the course of a couple of years was the Private Labeling effort by WMC Mortgage as they rebranded their online subprime mortgage application functionality to make it available to other lenders.

The challenge was to make use of the same basic site content while totally changing the look and feel of each private labeled partner site to mimic that of each partners' existing main website. With more recent technology advances, this would have been a much simpler project, but this assignment was for an underlying site structure loaded with tables and coded with classic ASP.

I was tasked with single-handedly changing the UI (user interface) for well over a dozen sites by inserting selective portions of hand-coded HTML into existing ASP scripts and modifying the corresponding CSS style sheets. They definitely weren't all pretty, but it wasn't my job to redesign the main partner sites!

Take a look at the sample screenshots below. If you look closely, you'll see that for the most part they all have the same links and content! They represent only a portion of the many faces of WMC Direct.

The evolution of WMC Direct Initial site design for the WMC Direct program launch

In 1998, WMC Mortgage Corp. launched one of the industry’s first internet loan submission and automated underwriting systems for mortgage brokers. The program, called WMC Direct, was and still is a huge success for the company. They turned to me to design the original User Interface for the the initial site.

Another generation of the WMC Direct website

Periodically I was brought in to refresh the look and feel of the main site graphics. It went through a couple of iterations during the next few years.

Commercial template version of the same WMC Direct site

At one point, WMC brought in a new VP Marketing who purchased a commercial template and asked that the site be reformatted once again. I was able to adapt the template graphics and structure to accommodate the standard site content very quickly.

This last design was never utilized, but I optimized it for full functionality in case they wanted to go in this direction. This is the only time in my career that I have been asked to use a pre-designed web template.
